Jaya leads in lighting up State with LED lamps

The Tamilnadu government is taking efforts to replace the lamp-posts in nine Corporations, 35 Municipalities and 101 Panchayats with LED lamps across the State.The Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today ordered a high-level committee to be set up for the purpose. For this the tender notice would be floated. The project would be implemented with public-private participation.She ordered the construction of new buildings at a cost of Rs 37 crore for 10 Municipalities including Salem, Hosur, Kodaikanal, Theni - Alinagaram. The government would provide a subsidy of Rs 26 crore.Meanwhile, an official press release said, 'To improve the living condition of people in urban areas, there is a need to provide them with infrastructure. Under the existing circumstances wherein there was an increase in the population the Corporations faced the challenge of keeping a check on its expenditure on the energy front.
